Armchair Directing

"This guy knows how to direct actors, I've seen him work with them"
This after I watched a horrible short film his friend made.

This is the stupidest comment ever said. And by someone who knows less than shit about filmmaking. Why? Because if you cast right, you never have to direct.

Film school has fucked these eggheads up. Especially former filmmakers who now teach. I get they have to fulfill their semester. And...truth is...you learn more by just watching movies anyway.
This idiot who said this to me also stumbled onto the biggest trap known to any newbie...
...acting the part of a director over directing.
If this dumny had ever been on a real set, directors don't say much. It's on the page. If you happen to write for the actors even better. These newbies want the idea of directing. The book bullshit. No...it's usually "slower" or "faster" or plain watching. That is the problem with young people these days. They think it's wearing the bullhorn and molding performances. Try the nuts and bolts.

To date, this moron hasn't made anything out of film school. So, very nice of you to share your opinion.
