Gregory Gunn, a 58 year old grocer was killed by a policeman. Gunn is Black, the policeman is White.
It's was 3 A.M. when the events of this tragedy went down. With no history of violence in Gunn's past, he was shot multiple times by the officer, and died on the scene.
You might ask yourselves what he was doing skulking around the neighborhood at 3 A.M. as a 58 year old man, that is to say...if you aren't living in suburbia. But, yes, it's a free country and allowed to walk at any time of the day. But you do risk being profiled, questioned and released, say...if you don't FUCKING RUN.
I recall being questioned multiple times by police, walking around my neighborhood in a bad part of the San Fernando Valley. I answer most questions promptly and as White a voice as I can muster. "Yes sir, no sir, as you wish, sir..." and away they go. Cops don't want to fill out paperwork on your stupid ass.
This event happened in Montgomery Alabama. A previous hotbed of racial unrest. That's like if I had a bullhorn screaming anti-Mexican slogans and believing nothing bad would happen to me. You just need to stay off the radar. And YES, it is profiling, as their grieving relatives have claimed. We pay cops to profile...as a condition of protect and serve.
I feel awful if this death was just a dumb cop being trigger happy idiot. But, there is a level of common sense that needs to be exercised, in terms of blame game. At this point, all the public sees is relatives coming out of the woodwork wondering how they can benefit from this shitty event.
