Go and seek this out if you haven’t already. Many people
will consider him a madman. I consider him pretty damn accurate. We’re just too
much of a pussy to admit it. See: Amy Pascal Sony leaks to see how the powers
that be really feel.
His views are very similar to how I think of the industry. A
bunch of bullshitters. It cracks me up that a lot of people who criticize his
stance on Hollywood, is being proved accurate as the insane German Paul Revere
of independent cinema lets loose on a tirade of a lack of financial support for
his movie through CrowdFunding. Yep, I’ve already wrote about this, before his
meltdown.
I think I saw ONE Uwe Boll movie long ago. So long, I can’t
even remember the title. But he circled a lot of people around me. His name was
tossed around the tiny projects I was on. His name was synonymous with schlock.
Which, even at his level, and where we are now, in terms of people making
movies with their cell phones, his would be considered mid-level today.
I think his screaming about us to go fuck ourselves because
he couldn’t get the third installment of a movie “franchise” entitled “Rampage”
is very clear case of when the ego met the reality. Even though Uwe had slugged
his way through the quagmire of Hollywood bullshit, he was still seen as
insignificant as a YouTuber. To anyone with an ounce of dignity, this is
ridiculous. His movies did make money. As they don’t let you make movies unless
they make profit. So it was natural that he would hustle to make a third movie
using public money. That’s where he went wrong. The public are strange ducks.
Two examples…Kevin Pollak chat show was about to be turned into a pay for past
episodes podcast. The pod world BLEW up over it. They threatened boycotts,
didn’t want to pay, and if they could most likely would’ve burned a hay stuffed
effigy to him on his lawn. He quickly changed it back to free. Guess how much
access would’ve been? 99 cents. Yep. Not even a dollar. We throw less change
away in a month. But that’s our fucking stupid mentality. And it’s addressed by
Uwe. Same with the feature I shot. “Afro Ninja” went over 100 million views.
Imagine if even half of those people paid a measly dollar to watch it. $50
million sounds great. In fact, the views tipped over 300 million worldwide. And
was shown on Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show” Guess what? Nope. It disappeared. It is
almost so contradictory to how we believe. When things are free, there is no
value to it, until you put a value on it, then it becomes too much. If you
undervalue it, so do people. Mass thinking isn’t just some cult joke.
Steamrolling a movie into a hit is real. “50 Shades of Grey” had horrid
reviews. Was a success. “The Fault in The Stars” had NO known actors, and only
but a best selling novel to go by and a DEPRESSING story. Made a gazillion
bucks.
These are the people Uwe Boll are addressing. Only very
German, and clearly upset.
