Lester Bower: Texas Loves Them Some Execution

Do you know the story of Lester Bower?

I didn't either until Texas executed him after over 30 years on death row. Yeah, that's long.

He was convicted for the homicide of 4 people. One happened to be a sheriff's deputy, the other a former police officer. What makes this case interesting, is that Lester lied about plane parts in his home (which he could not show a receipt) and had the same ammunition used in the murders. Now comes the odd part. Lester was a salesman with a long marriage, two daughters and no record of criminal activity or mental-health problems. That's it. Just was there to buy a plane. And then he killed four people.

The prosecution rested on just that he snapped. No fingerprints. No blood anywhere in his car. No DNA. All circumstantial. Just snapped. And it happens...so they say. Snapped about what? Never answered. He just decided one day to murder four people? Bull-fucking-shit.

Know what I think?...there were two dirty cops at the airport hangar that day. Girlfriends of the murderers, complete strangers, stepped up and admitted it was a botched drug deal. But their testimony was unreliable. Most likely because they were girlfriends of murderers (it's that funny). So the prosecutor said. So what do we have: cover-up. Yes, I believe the police covered up the crime because they didn't want to shake the confidence of the community. That they couldn't smear the name of the two officers who were more than likely crooked. Yes, the Supreme Court denied his final appeal. But they are only given the information, the prosecution (and his conviction) allows them. The fact that the two other officers were involved never was investigated. Nor their background.

I'm all for the death penalty, but when something stinks, it stinks bad.
