Incarcerated With Money...For A Hot Minute

"Robert Hinton was released from prison after serving time for a parole violation. In September, he was awarded $450,000 by New York City to settle a lawsuit against several jail guards who hogtied and severely beat him in 2012 while he was incarcerated at Riker's Island.
In the months since the settlement, Mr. Hinton had been making plans to buy a house someplace far from his Brooklyn neighborhood, where he could not seem to stay out of trouble.
In the end, he could not escape.
Early on Friday morning, Mr. Hinton, 28, was shot and killed outside a housing project in Brownsville, Brooklyn, not far from his own home in Bedford-Stuyvesant, police officials said. No arrests had been made by Friday evening, and investigators provided no other details about the circumstances of the shooting."

My guess is police aren't going to be racing to solve this mystery.
I'm not sure what prison is, but I'm pretty sure the cops are worse than the criminals. You have to be to survive, I would think. I couldn't imagine a worse Hell then being thrown into a pit of animals. But somehow this dude's brain didn't necessarily link prison with brutality. Prison isn't suppose to be a country club. I would think hearing this story, most would do their best NOT to stay in prison. But...nope...brutality isn't the answer. Apparently the streets had its own justice. Whatever that may have been, I doubt we'll ever know. Since he's been claimed by...someone out there that thought he owed them something.

The prevailing opinion of the Black community is, the cops did this. I'm not discounting it, but it would be a stretch to get sued and gun down the guy who won money off of you. Not like they split the pot at the precinct. Or even send a message to the gang community. That message has already been sent. It's called "the law." I think last update was that he planned on taking his money and making a new life for himself outside of the crime area he was in. He never got that chance. Or he didn't take off fast enough. After taxes, lawyer fees and medical, I doubt he had enough even for a down payment (yeah, someone will get you there too).  There's no winners here.
