Samuel Jackson And The N-Word

Podcaster Joe Rogan read some lyrics to a song or directly quoted someone else using the n-word and then had to apologize for this. Because he used someone else's quote. Meanwhile, Sam Jackson doesn't take his reasoning of using the n-word as anything but Rogan enjoying saying the word. Versus...say...Quentin Tarantino. Okay, I'll out the fucker. I was at the New Beverly to see "Convoy" and Tarantino happened to be there as well (he owns the theater). I was there with my friend, and in the movie a character uses the n-word. And I've never seen anyone laugh as loud as Tarantino did. I mean the bellowing laugh from his sweat soaked face went for a minute before he calmed down. It's not to say Tarantino is a racist. Perhaps it's his own uncomfortableness. But, I wonder what Jackson would think to know about this. Think he would defend his pal? That's all it is. Friends sticking with friends. Joe Rogan isn't friends with Jackson. Nor is he on his payroll. Therefore, all is well. The thing is...okay...here's the thing...what if we change the n-word to "Jackson"? "Hey Jackson, my Jackson over here is a crazy ass Jackson" Do you feel the context of the word changes or are we still thinking it's racist and aggressive? Probably so. I don't think anyone should use the n-word. Ever. Song lyric, speaking to one another and so forth. Richard Pryor said it best when he thought the word is typically use to describe the misery of a community. He wanted to change the mindset by not alluding to any part of this America where the word flew around from ignorance. Also for Black folk to call each other that seems to go against the intention of NOT allowing it to be a hurtful word. Sam is right when it comes to the casualness of which the word is thrown around. It becomes so integrated into the mouths of the youth. I don't think Rogan is that impressionable to people under 20 years old. Rappers are. Go after them. That's mah Jackson.
