It is pretty hypocritical that the industry which prides itself on being SO diverse, has shut down people of color to the awards. Specifically in acting.
I have to reiterate how little I care about this awards being given to "the best." If "Mad Max: Fury Road" is second in terms of how many nominations, how are we even thinking that this award is serious? That movie sucked ass. And it's a movie, not a film.
It does seem suspect that a character piece such as "Straight Outta Compton" was so critically received but got a pity nomination (original screenplay). I would think some would be SUPER PISSED that Bryan Cranston got nominated for "Trumbo" a movie no one saw but is about the Blacklist of Hollywood Commies back in the day. Considering the dude who played Eazy-E In "Compton..." was fantastic says very little to the Academy that White is always might.
I repeat, I've got no skin in this uncomfortable corner Hollywood paints themselves into. On the surface, it seems the industry is very liberal, but deep down inside, they still find ways to remind us how they really feel. And there aren't that many voters for these awards. You could lay a bounty to the "anonymous" voters and see the faces of diversity in this industry vote pool. It would probably surprise non-movie folk they're probably over the age of 50, White and gay. That's my guess on the demographic. Gays are rich. Rich like conservative, even if they are gay.
That would be the greatest F.U. to all the ones who've fought so hard for diversity...
...it was the gay Whites all along.
