I'm reading "The Valley of The Dolls" now and in it there is a girl who became an Oscar winning actress then she loses herself in pills and alcohol until her friends commit her to a sanitarium to dry out. She is uber-famous but also uber-obnoxious. Her choices were built on survival. Incapable of failing in show business, and crippled by fame.
I won't pretend to know what happened in her early days, but more than likely she was sexually assaulted. Fame comes at a price out here back then. And especially when there was no social media to cry out. For that alone, it sickens me that she may have been taken advantage of.
The more cynical side would say...she made a deal and now lives with a life of regret. Never finding people who did care for her deeply. And wanted the best. Chances are, she pushed those people away anyway. Actors are narcississts. And they don't like to face reality sometimes. Because it's nothing they haven't told themselves and quickly talk themselves down from the ledge. That's where the substance abuse comes from.
I wish her well. Her career isn't over and can make a comeback. We all love a reborn story. From the ashes of which she shed her skin to become the strong willed success. Though the harsh community won't let her forget. I hope she gets that chance.
