The stunning actress Sharon Tate, had she survived, would be my Dad's age.
That's weeeeeeeird.
So I'm watching "Valley Of The Dolls" the cautionary tale of the entertainment business. Apparently, the "dolls" part is drugs. Women who do drugs, get abortions, drunks, self-destructive behavior. And nice tits. I wonder about the fact that the Hollywood-ness hasn't changed. Except for the Harvey Weinstein thing anyway.
The film is ugly and tragic though the women are stunning. More odd, as popular as the film was...no one got the true message. That celebrity on both sides of the journey will damage you. And while the silly melodrama got a shit-ton of criticism...it was ahead of its time.
Based on Jacqueline Susanna's novel based on her early life of desperately trying to gain acting traction in New York.
Back in those days, if you were discovered they would contract you and you'd be locked into studio for (typically) three films. This did not mean you worked, it meant you could be sent out to the project these studios had. They still paid you. This is IF you cracked the studio. Now...you have to hustle yourself. My point being...we're not that far from these days. But it feels like an eternity.
