First off, I'd like to thank all the people who've been reading my blog.
I'm not trying to get anything right, only get it out there. Feel free to disagree or communicate if you want.
Anyway, you know lately what's been getting on my nerves, is digital movies. They are so clinically clean and precise and sharp that...it's no longer about human and emotions. I got my hands on a Super16mm Bolex and the camera is super fucked up. BUT...it has THE coolest abnormalities to it, which I'm tempted not to repair. Because guess what?...that is a look that no one else will have.
Why do it if you can't emulate the look? That's that shitbag corporate talking. Real art exists in moments. Try telling an actor to recreate a performance verbatim. Can't be done. It can come close, can be studied and copied by others, but it wasn't in THAT moment.
Which is why I'm so pissed at the new trend of getting a low-contrast muted look like the ones David Fincher kicked off. It's absolutely a sin to filmmakers to strangle the fuck out of images. His movies DON'T breathe, because it has his ugly sense of symmetry and perfection. It's not cinema, it's a clinical study similar to putting a camera behind a two-way mirror. Is it truth? Nope. Neither is Denis Villanueva movies. And the trend is going there, so the trend is obviously correct. Go fuck yourselves. His movies are absolute dog turd dull. This version of humanity is lapping it up. Because that's what they are fed. And also to believe the evolution of movie making requires this choked out look. Which then dumps the human element of imperfection.
Imperfection is what the human can detect and respond. Because we aren't robots. Our brains processing numbers to form images is a form of mental abuse. Because we're being dialed in to ingest more and more information and never storing any of it. No one can remember directions OR phone numbers anymore. A movie that was made on digital cameras, are forgotten quickly. Think about ones you believe could have longevity? Give up? You can't. They're all awful. Unless, we are being conditioned now. Which is possible. And simply, easier to let it slowly head dive into the abyss.
How sad it is in order to survive, people who consider themselves artist have to come to terms with the reality of commerce. Again, being led solely by money is the undercurrent of a hypocritical Hollywood whose socialist backbone is wrapped in its hunger for gold. And it's not so it can continue to make meaningful art.
