Illeana Douglas has a new podcast called "I Blame Dennis Hopper" which is also the title of her new book.
She's got AMAZING guests who aren't afraid to dish on stories. They aren't really...well know to people under the age of 25 but are people whom I've known and respected for years. Because they are strong women. And funny men. I really encourage any actor to listen in on these stories to see where your future is going to be. It's very very accurate to what you think celebrity is then and now.
Rose McGowan was a guest on it and she mentioned something incredibly fascinating. People our age (Gen-X) still remember when celebrities were...famous. The internet world destroyed it. She was shocked to see that Instagram personalities and social media were the new thing. And the news sources were more interested in that. It wasn't that you had to earn your way to that position anymore. This is telling since, they are fleeting. There are no memories associated with these people one their fame is gone.
For those who don't possess an iota of talent or work ethic, this is good news (majority). For those who worship their craft, this is crushing. Because this new world we live in aren't going to appreciate you or your efforts. This is not to say there isn't a market for it. But even those are being plugged up by the "stars" left desperately sweeping up the great material.
Listen to this podcast and you get so much more insight into the business now. She knows the reality of what's there now.
