On Marc Maron's podcast WTF Anne Hathaway revealed as a young actress prior to breakthru roles subjected herself to well over 100 rejections. A lesson for all. She hit with "The Princess Diaries" but still remained hard to cast. Let that sink in as well. Then she told of a story about how when they were making "The Devil Wears Prada" they had already casted her. And when they went to cast the icy boss of a fashion magazine editor role, they surprisingly got Meryl Streep. Production then felt enough bravery to approach bigger named actresses even though Hathaway had already been casted. Yup...this is the business we chose. She waited until 7 girls turnd down the role before they went back to her. How demoralizing is that...
...and she still took the role.
That movie became a hit as well. And I doubt they felt Hathaway was the reason. I re-tell this story for the reason I think most people warn of this business...we are not civil people. I have not the ruthless ability to do such a thing. But...people somehow find that in them. I also would not shed the pride that Hathaway was able to. Having desperately wanting the role, and having to wait until 7 undeserving actresses shut them down.
Remember...if you can handle this type of behavior, you will endure.
