I recall sitting in my sister's room watching the Academy Awards when Jonathan Demme won for "Silence Of The Lambs." I was so happy, because that movie is amazing. And it was the last time I cheered for that award.
I had to backtrack his career, to which I stumbled on my second favorite movie of his "Something Wild." It got me really pumped to be an independent filmmaker. He loved music and film and, by all accounts, he was a lovely person who was always so happy to be making movies. What a great life.
He died of esophageal cancer at 73. And it's a great loss to real cinema.
