"All directors these days just tell people you stand there say something, you go over there...say something...no one directs anymore. Like working with actors."
I should've backhanded this idiot.
Directing isn't that shit your learned from your teachers, it's trying to get the coverage and information out with the mood you're trying to maintain...consistency. Meanwhile some asshole in academia says you have to guide actors. It's all in the fucking script.
Actors...correct me if I'm wrong...but aren't you just waiting for us to shut up and just go again?
It kills me that kids are coming out of school confused that directing is getting philosophical about the material. This is all done before hand with minor tweaking..the rest is speed. Faster, slower, louder or softer. My thing is always asking what they're thinking. Thinking is seeing. As is listening. Not some shitbag with a director's degree chewing the fat about character motivation.
This all coming from someone who hasn't made a single thing outside of college. Gimme a break.
