12 year old kid was shot by cops while playing with a toy gun in a park.
Now the city wants their family to pay for the ambulance ride.
At first I was angered by this. The kid is dead, they didn't even file a case against the (clearly incompetent) officer. Then they send them a bill.
It will obviously be paid off by someone. Possibly just dismissed. But it seems the city has to do it, to sidestep any guilt. I blame our society of lack of shame. Shame is what makes us less litigious. If we took responsibility for our own dumb actions, none of this would be necessary. So this snowballs into bigger issues. Political people (who SHOULD know better) jump on it for their agenda. And it gets blown out of proportion.
Listen, I'd be pissed if my kid was killed by a cop while he was playing with a toy gun. And I most likely wouldn't want to pay that bill. Insult to injury. But, step back and realize we did this to ourselves. Government is following suit with all our bullshit.
To be honest, $500 for an ambulance ride isn't that much. I almost think they did it so that it wouldn't have made the news.
