Glen Rogers: The Serial Killer You May Not Know

Glen Rogers is an American serial killer. And I’m surprised a movie isn’t made about him. The guy logged in 70 murders. A psychotic monster to say the least, and strange that his name was never brought up in the media as much as John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, or Jeffrey Dahmer. A few things fascinate me about him. For one thing, he is from the same state I grew up in and did most of his killing around the time I lived in Ohio in the early to late 90’s. The other thing is he made it all the way out to Van Nuys, California. As did I. In fact, one of the bodies he murdered, he dumped the body into a car and set it on fire, according to the crime scene photos was a neighborhood a mile down the road from me.
However, his killing extended through the lower southern states. What is clear is the direct issue of his rage. He grew up in an insanely dysfunctional family. Having been in a family of seven children, he was the youngest. The fact was…he was suppose to have never been born. Back in the early 60’s his mother had wanted to get her tubes tied after the 6th child. And in those days, you had to get permission from the courts to do so. The courts found no reason for it. And thus, by pure accident Glen was born.
Glen’s father was a heavy drinker and a spousal abuser. To the insanity of their dysfunction the mother stayed with the father until his death 50 years later. During this time, the father was a philanderer. Having multiple affairs. The catalyst for his behavior seemed to have started when he was 13 years of age. Having been forced to accompany his father to his work as a janitor, during one outing, he’d been locked upstairs in a room, while his father had found a woman and taken her to the basement for a tryst. Glen’s mother called, angry that she knew the father was a cheater. Glen kept giving her reasons as to why he couldn’t come to the phone, until she called him a no good liar and berated him mercilessly and he hung up the phone. The woman came from the basement, as Glen was standing there. She grabbed Glen’s cheeks and more or less told him to remain silent about the affair. To which Glen fired back that she wasn’t his mom, that she was a whore. To which the woman, offended, said his mother was stupid was a stupid bitch. It seemed he snapped and pushed this woman down the stairs. Having feared what he did, he ran into a closet and hid. Behind the closed doors he heard screaming and yelling. And then it went quiet. Then his father calls to him “you good for mother bastard, you done it now, you killed her, she’s laying on the floor. Boy, we gotta’ clean up this mess.” To which, writing all this from prison, he implies now that he was pretty sure his father had killed this woman. They dumped the body in the woods. And thus, this serial killer was born. Pretty heavy stuff.
By the way, in 1994, while Glen was in Los Angeles, he had invited a drug pal to a bar…a pretty girl. And rich. He was setting her up to be robbed. Her name was Faye Resnick. Better known as friend of OJ Simpson. Glen’s mode of killing women was to cut them. Specifically slashing their throat. Glen’s brother believes he was involved in the death of Nicole and Ron Goldman. More than likely...the story goes, O.J. paid Glen to get back some diamond earrings from Nicole's home. To which he reiterated (as told to his brother) "you may have to kill the bitch." The evidence matches everything this man has told investigators.
Glen is on death row in Florida. After someone is sentenced to die, the cases against him slowly and quietly get dropped. Why spend effort and energy to try someone already going to die? Closure for the family maybe. There are about 60 cases that have met this fate. I think some families would like to get their revenge on a monster.
