They're re-upping this sitcom from the 80's-90's. The sweet wholesome story of the Tanner family who lived in San Fran and had two live-in help from Danny's (Bob Saget) brother in law Jesse (John Stamos) & his best friend Joey (Dave Coulier). While that 90's ship has sailed, I really can't imagine what new adventures these people can have.
Bob Saget has gone out of his way to prove he's not that wholesome dad. Those who watch "Entourage" knows he's somewhat scummy. Though, having listened to him on multiple podcasts, he's a lovable scum. Is that him in real life? He probably likes you to think so. He was the most vocal about Danny Tanner being a naive weirdo. Dave Coulier has some mud slung his way as well. He's rumored to be Alanis Morrisette's rage material in "Jagged Little Pill." Not so sure his schtick with the sound effects is going to fly as well with today's audiences. And John Stamos...he's Stamos. A former rocker who partied and loved his hair. The thing about his version of partying was weird. Uncle Jesse would have beautiful ladies show up to their home. Most likely groupies. To which, that can't be a great role model for the girls. Case in point, the middle child Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) developed an almost suicidal addiction to meth. Don't get me wrong, she's developed into a nice piece of tail. But...you have to wonder if being so popular wasn't an addiction in itself.
Candace Cameron is a talk show person now. Not sure her political views or whatever, but as the oldest child in this t.v. family, it may work to her advantage to be Christian fundamentalist? It seems right that a born again could be great comedy fodder.
And let's get to the elephant in the room. The Olsen Twins. Well, technically, two people played one person. I say get the prettier one and watch them fight it out. Instead, they're writing her out. I call it a big mistake. They can replace her with say...a Cambodian woman. Keep calling her "Michelle" and don't even address the race It's odd enough to work, and piss off America. And make light of Olsen being so...odd anyway.
With so much history behind them all now...who knows what they plan. The naive pre-millenium quality of such a show is not going to be there. So as rabid fans, I think there's going to be a let down. "Modern Family" has replaced this generation. People my age who watched it a little don't give that much of a shit. Part of growing up, was the ability to watch parenting in progress. Hard to take anyone seriously who's done his own version of "The Aristocrats." But I've been wrong in the past. I didn't think people wanted "Supergirl. Apparently it's a hit. Maybe what we're saying is that old can be new again. Be nice to see these supposed has-beens get another shot at the title.
