Something You May Never Consider
In making a movie, the one thing most people don't account for a lot is contingency.
Everyone comes at it with a very positive angle. Which is great! However, the older you get, the more experience you have, the more being blind-sided you endure.
After a while you learn to live with this debilitating fear that everything collapses
Because as I've mentioned to some people, filmmaking is organized chaos.
So the more things you bring into play, the more contingencies you should expect. Anyone gets sick, injured, or late...that costs money. IF you've ever wondered why some productions have fucked over employees, here's the reason. Let's say you lost a few days because the actor is ill. Actor still gets paid. But now you've pushed your days into a few more days which means crew needs to be paid extra. YOU DIDN'T BUDGET FOR THAT.
Now let's say you have a dickhead actor who remains in his trailer because he doesn't "feel it" (Dustin fucking Hoffman comes to mind). Each day drives production costs up. And then people wonder how productions get inflated. It's because of things like this.
I understand illness and I understand accidents. The entire endeavor to make a movie should make anyone nervous. Stupid people aren't. Or actors don't seem to get it. They show up, do their job and leave. They don't see the work that's really involved. And if you get on a production that doesn't consider these things, I suggest you run.
I think it's probably sometimes best the talent doesn't see how these things run. To be honest, it's not their problem. It does when say...they are late or don't show up when they said they would. That's disgusting. Being late is a sin to me. The reason why Tom Cruise is who he is, is because he does not ever stop swimming like a shark. He wants you to care more about the project than he does. Even if you are "just a grip."
All filmmaking is, is a very large gamble. You put up a lot of money to make something in hopes someone will buy it (pay ticket to watch) thus making you famous. Or whatever. We all want to be the storyteller at the campfire and get all the hot chicks. So is the gamble worth it? I don't think so.
I use filmmaking to banish demons. And to manipulate the world and see if it translates to film. None of this has anything to do with any return on the investment. The only return is that it had a tiny impact on someone's life. The experience of watching or being in it. Which ever.
I'm truly happy doing it this way. But, it's still aggravating. Fighting the stream.

Acknowledge A Valid Point
Even if you don't agree with someone...the very least you can do it acknowledge the person has a valid point.
EVERYONE has a point and you should be curious where that comes from. Instead, people ignore and steamroll. Stupid people do this. I constantly am aware when people do this. And it's aggravating.
It's for a few reasons. Insecure or stupid. Or both.
Here's the thing...
"Hey, I wonder what those clouds mean?"
"I guess it looks like there's going to be rain?"
"Why do you think so?"
"I've seen clouds like that before."
The "Why do yo think so" part is ALWAYS overlooked. Because everyone wants to steamroll and no one wants to wonder how someone thinks a certain way or where it must come from. I probably know what those clouds mean, but I want you to tell me what your train of thought is.
A stupid person who will remain stupid has no listening capabilities. And you can tell. They're just waiting to talk. Or they don't care. Man, I fucking hate stupid people.
Set yourself apart in this world and listen and ask questions. Seriously. You will go VERY far this way.

Do You Care About The Olympics Anymore?
I'm not sure I ever did. With the exception of when we use to be able to win food stuff from McDonald's. Remember getting free hamburgers and soft serve ice cream when a U.S. team won. I was holding out for the fries.
Kinda funny when you consider that as we were eating McD's, athletes where trying NOT to eat McD's.
But I dunno, Olympics always seemed sort of...dull. As there are so many more entertaining distractions, it seems this televised thing use to hold a TON of glitz and glamor now don't seem as coveted. And I think the t.v. people know. NBC took a massive hit. A dip and draw not seen since 30 years earlier.
I suspect 30 years earlier suffered similar setbacks because of South Korea? Even then I didn't really care.
It use to be an event.
I think the fractured distancing of our society is causing a great deal of this. No one is proud of their country anymore. Certainly, in America, some athletes found ways to tell the world that they think we suck. Even though they showed up in state of the art equipment. Whilst Eastern European athletes had to train using ox and pull chains (Remember "Rocky IV")
Also American patriots seem to root AGAINST the U.S. team now. Not the U.S. Just the athletes that kneel.
Kneelers are funny. They think they're making a difference. They aren't. They're promoting their brand. They know it. We know it. Capitalism is great. Everyone knows that. No one wants to admit it.
Any way, the feats of athletes now also seem subpar to what we see on a weekly basis. A kid who can jump rope 1000 times, a person who can survive Chicago. These are much more impressive.
Records are beaten. Teams will lose.
And no one cares.

I Don't Have An Idea
More often than not, when I tell people I'm making a short film, they inevitably share the fact that they want to make a movie. It's contagious. And very cool. Inspiring people to make their own projects is inspiring in itself.
The follow up conversation...
."...but I don't have an idea"
Yes you do. What you're really saying is "I want to make a movie, but I'm afraid it will suck"
It probably will. Especially if you haven't made anything. Then you think other people will shit on your project because...it's more than likely, you've spent your time shitting on other people's movies. People probably think you think your big trap means you can make a better movie. And when it sucks, which it will, you look like an idiot. People will mock you, and so forth.
So fucking what?
Keep shitting on movies and making bad movies. No one gives a shit. Seriously. The fact you are doing it means so much more.
Segue, I will say, a lot of people are lazy when it comes to execution. To be very frank, constructing a movie and going out and executing is a TON of work. I run on adrenaline a lot. For trying to make my day in the chaos. Very little of it is actually what you see directors do.
There's a doc with Stanley Kubrick belittling Shelly Duvall in "The Shining" See, I always thought he was reserved. The energy it takes to have an idea, get everyone involved, THEN coordinate it is...something short of a miracle to get it completed. If you do it on a feature, you are a God amongst men and women.
You do have an idea. Whether you can spend your days focused to execute it is another story. For most of us...the time better be well spent. And you BETTER appreciate what you are doing. In that sense, a lot of people don't really have faith in their abilities. I COMPLETELY understand your concern. But much like sex, the more you do it, the sort-of better you get.
For me, it's a time waster. I have a cool idea of a TYPE of movie I've always wanted to make. And that's it. Don't fear it. Just kill it out there!
I have faith in you.

2020 Election Was A Fraud
Fine Google, ban my ass.
Because we all know tech folk like them were bullied and need to take it out on society.
Most I.T. guys here hate humanity. You think we're cynics. I'm an amateur compared to them.
Any way one of them was telling me that he ran the statistics and it's impossible for the result we have. Yet, somehow...we are living with this. Joe Biden is an absolute moron. And no one is defending this fact. He is a moron. Everyone agrees. Which is why the original plan was to shoehorn the other puppet Kamala Harris as the president after Old Joe croaks or they enact the 25th Amendment. That day is coming.
So when that happens, you still going to think anything we say is a conspiracy. How about admitting that the Conservatives were actually right in their ideas that it was always in the cards. Instead, well...the frustrating part is that as long as things work out for the Left everything is fine. The minute it doesn't, that's when they come with their theory of foul play.
When Trump won, I ALWAYS wondered what that was about. Nothing...and I mean, not an iota of proof or even speculative idea was ever shown that made any cheating occurred. The simple answer was to point to Hillary Clinton. Evidence there.
I guess you could say the same about pointing to Trump whilst Biden got the most votes in the history of the history of America. Hahaha. I'm still laughing why the majority of people don't find that suspicious. They probably do but won't ask them the questions. Because they don't want to know they answer...because they think they won.
The new society has built a disgusting place where you don't earn what you get anymore. You play victim until you get it. And when you get it, you play a bigger victim to get more. Winning by cheating isn't winning. Anyone with a brain knows that. But the Lefties I know are fine with it. Until they're not.

Best Feeling In the World
Being independent and not beholden to anyone while making your film is...AWESOME!
Obviously it costs some dough and it comes strictly out of pocket.
But to be honest, there is no one that will care about your project more than you.
Also, once people put money into your project...you have to listen to them.
And most people have stupid ideas. Not their fault. You just studied harder.
If it were something someone else wrote, YOU'D have stupid ideas. It's the nature of the beast.
The word "liberating" comes to mind when it comes to making movies that you don't have to answer to people over. But yeah, it comes at a price.
I'm doing a feature next.
I know...I've said it before. But more pieces are in place this time and we understand how things will need to work.
And yes, I'm sinking what amounts to the costs of a house into it. And sure, some of you would want me to fail at it. But honestly...I don't care if it succeeds. Or makes money. Or anything else. Call me stupid. To me, making it is its own rewards.
And having the freedom not to get into constant battles is its own reward.
I think they call it "peace of mind"

Olympics Started?
Supposedly this is happening in Tokyo. Who would know? I stopped watching when they had skateboarding as an event.
Laugh accordingly.
What I did hear:
Women's U.S. Soccer Team lost to Sweden.
The entire team knelt during our National Anthem. But, you know...they lost to Sweden.
How embarrassing is that?
I don't know that lesbo with the colored hair that hates America, but she is the ringleader of these losers. There were three that stood though, so I felt bad for them.
The rest of these ungrateful animals can...you know...go to a country that they have more benefits from.
They won't. Because they know how good they have it here. Which makes them typical garbage entitled humans. God, someone punch them and put them out of their misery (incidentally, I still blame my generation for creating these cunts. We told them they deserved more. By "more" we weren't specific. It means you get what we all get. Which you already got. You want special treatment, not fair treatment. Which you don't deserve.
You lost. And embarrassed America. Proving once again, pretending to have principals and having them are two different things.
They Are Spying On You
We're all being spied on.
People only care if it happens to them. If it happens to people they don't like...oh well.
When I was younger it didn't seem to matter. The thought was "Who cares? I have nothing to hide and nothing to take"
As you get older, oftentimes, it's the people you care about that get sucked into this obvious crime.
The new administrations wants this to be the thing.
Remember Cuba. Fidel Castro overthrew the government there and when he took it over he turned it into a dictatorship by shutting the door to anyone who opposed his viewpoints. Sound familiar? That's Biden. Don't even call him the president. Have zero respect for him (obvious). He's a phony and a fraud and the election was stolen (obvious). The integrity of the election was compromised. Guess what that fraud side said? NO ONE can oppose the results.
Look, I never gave a shit when Trump was called an illegitimate president. He really was. Why? Because he wasn't a fucking career politician. But there was nothing shady about that election. Because it was Hillary Clinton. And I don't recall so many questions and statistics and actual engineers who crunched the numbers and realized the probability of a Biden win was less than nothing. Especially since he dragged in Kamala Harris. Whom I'm still convinced will find a way to get him out and her in. She's a total gross snake. California even saw it.
This admin is being run by a machine. Hilary has been laying low because the minute she sticks her head out, the ruse is obviously over. Obama, Hilary are the ones running the show. They have a bobble head puppet like Biden to pretend he's the president. Re-doing everything Trump squashed. Call it what you want. There was probably a moment where Biden saw something Trump did and thought "hey, that was a pretty good idea" to be met with the Lefty mafia to silence him. Probably with more tranquilizers. Dude isn't just "sleepy" he's downright braindead.
Obvious to most.
And this was also a way to circumvent Obama or Hil being the bad guys when it came to spying on Americans. Mostly to find out who hates their guts. These are totalitarians nuts who constantly think they know better and are better. Remember Hilary thinks we're all scum except her. She hates humanity and harbors DEEP resentment towards America for choosing Trump over her.
These are facts.
And now they want to make it legal.
To the Democrats, they ignore the Constitution. Come and get them, they dare us. Guess what? If they don't, they keep doing it. Duh.
This is disgusting theater that will wrap us all up in it eventually. A slow turn of the stove top until we boil. The Democrats have become the Republicans of the 70's. Disgusting pig animals who want power to drag Americans by the scruff. The Dems feel they are so superior to any normal human. And they drag others into this with enticements.
Either go with their flow or drown.
You decide.

There Are No Short Cuts To The Film Business
First off, there is no business left.
Sorry to tell most of you that. It's the truth.
Secondly, there are no shortcuts to break in. For a few of you when you try you end up doing twice as much work. For the rest of you sociopaths, you couldn't care if you roll over people to get what you want.
Either way, just fucking work.
"Work" is such a concept to a lot of people who want to break into the business. "Working" to film people is typically schmoozing and then flaking out on people. Flakes are the worst. Too many people make false promises that aren't kept.
Want to make it? Work and keep your word.
It's really that simple.
Except here's the thing, a lot of people in this business would say that what I wrote here is corny.
Yep, it most certainly is. But more importantly, these people are thinking/saying this is dire straights.
Sad people who think they can make a shortcut.
As if a million people haven't tried what they tried.
I hung out with someone yesterday who wants to circumvent "the industry" by creating his own company to get money so he can make movies so he can sell.
Not a bad idea.
A lot of people have tried this. Not sure the percentage results of success rate. We only hear from the ones who succeeded.
I suggested if he goes this route, be an acquisitions house first. In others words, show people you have taste. That's how Blumhouse, Miramax and A24 started. Then they started making their own content.
Sure that will fall on deaf ears.
There are no shortcuts.

Indentured Servitude is Wrong...Unless The Government Does It
You ever hear that "program" where if you want to wipe your student loan debt, you can work for the government?
Guess what?
That's illegal. In fact, you can't even volunteer for something like that. Because essentially, you are a slave. Most production people go into this type of work all the time...with the fancy name of "intern"
It's wrong. As they have to pay you something.
Indentured servitude is wrong because it is a breath away from slavery. What is the difference? Just the kindness of which you treat your servant.
It sometimes is a shame though. Because the government is the only one who can enslave you. With taxes and whatnot.
Isn't that funny?

People Are Willfully Ignorant
...Especially Lefties.
Okay, here's how it works...
when someone posits and idea...don't get condescending and repeat it back to them like it's the craziest idea they've heard. Instead...because some of you idiots can't process...you know...conversation...it goes like this...
"I think clouds are made of cotton candy"
Dumb response "YOU think clouds are made of cotton candy?! How can you think that?"
Correct response "Explain why"
There are WAY too many dumb people...wait NOT dumb, stupidly determined to not learn anything new. The older you get, the less it happens.
And you will start to encounter more and more people like this. Especially older people.
I swear to God I will kill myself before that happens.
I...will...ALWAYS be curious. About the thought processes of people. Because I really want to know how they draw a conclusion.
DUMB people do not. They dismiss anything that doesn't fall into their wheelhouse. Here's an idea. LISTEN first then dismiss it.
Closed minds are the worst people on Earth and slowly America's society is getting there.
I have listen to AOC or Alexandria Ocasia Cortez. I don't like her ideas and think, for the most part, they're misguided. BUT, I do see where she is coming from. A slow dissection of her thought process tells you the way she thinks. Wrong as that may be, it still is understandable. A LOT of people have already dismissed her, regardless of her thought process. That's terrible.
I find this behavior more from the Left than the Right. The Right are polite about it, but I'm sure they're guilty as well. But the minute you give any inch to thinking outside the box, the minute you are shut down by the Left.
Because they know their minds are weak and impressionable. And they think yours are too.
The point is to always be curious about everything. Regardless of your prejudices.

Marijuana Runner
Old news, but an Olympic hopeful, don't recall her name...don't care, got tested positive for marijuana and is, therefore, disqualified.
Honestly, if she was still faster than anyone else...shit add ten medals to this high bitch,
But rules are rules, regardless of what whiny stoners think.
Because rules only become rules when they benefit you.
Or if you feel it's an injustice. You don't give a shit, if say...a homeowner brandishes a gun after rioters broke down their fence and entered their property.
By the way, the couple plead guilty for some dumb reason. The guy is a lawyer for crissake. Dummies.
But yeah, now the rules don't apply.
Left leaning people have always irked me when it comes to these obvious bending of rules to suit their needs. When you loot and burn, they change the language so that it seems virtuous to do so. A LOT of people are getting sick of changing their vocabulary to suit their feelings.
And turning away.
I did. I'm sick of listening to people who have no clue what they want, but they want it NOW!
Wherever this runner ends up...I'm sure she'll be fine. A dispensary should put her on their wall of fame. A fucking road runner who blazed up. Who would've thunk?
The Afterlife?
A lot of people around me have been passing away. I guess that's what happens when you make it past a certain age. You start to see the ones who are left.
If you've committed to working in entertainment to bide your time before you leave this planet...good. Means you will sacrifice a lot to get there. Those who aren't willing...don't know what to tell you.
For those who don't believe in the after life...I get it. My Dad doesn't. He wasn't philosophical about it either. He was very non-chalant. When you go, all you see is darkness and that's it. He didn't mean it in a bad way, just that your conscience mind is no longer functional. Pretty practical.
I also don't begrudge the people who DO believe in the afterlife. Though I do think it leads to some poor behavior on the conscious world because a few believe they will live beyond this physical one.
I had a co-worker who walked me through his belief of no afterlife. He was pretty vague but essentially, he doesn't believe in the afterlife because of resentment towards people who do. In other words, because people who annoy him about God and Jesus rub him the wrong way they are obviously kooks.
Funny stuff.
For me, I think there is something beyond our consciousness. I'm not sure what. And I don't believe it's named Jesus. The mystical afterlife is just that...mystical. Do you re-boot your life from scratch? Do you retain any memories. I recall waking up in a bathtub once naked with the water drained and not remembering how I got there. Will it be something like that?
What is our conscious mind and can we ever even consider existence without it?
How sad it will be to have to backpedal. You appreciate life a lot more when you know if and when it ends, it was at the moment you were looking forward to something.

If You Remain Ignorant
Experience in the filmmaking world is wisdom.
Sometimes you'll find that the older guys impart the young with a lot of it.
The more you are on set, the more you understand why it is run the way it is.
A lot of young people today, especially those who shoot on celluloid, really seek out experience. Because it is a craft that isn't taught in their schools.
We all want to be unique. We all want to learn. Sort of.
There are a handful who go at it rather recklessly. Which is great if you are under the age of 20. As you gain more experience you gain more insight on the ridiculousness of the industry. As none of it will make sense. I feel that young filmmakers tend to gravitate towards getting more onset experience. This will give them the "crash course" into the realities of it. Which I wholeheartedly endorse.
Because it isn't like what you see in press kits. It's not (always) people talking about how nice it is to work with whatever they're co-stars with (Dustin Hoffman apparently is nothing like he is in interviews). Or how they're having fun (it's not fun, it's work...sometimes it's fun...if you're in charge...and even then, you're stressed).
It IS a lot about learning how chaos can form a cohesive product. That product happens to be an emotional tale. Director/Writer Christopher McQuarrie back this up in a podcast in regards to this. We are all banded together to find that story and tell it well.
A good storyteller is what filmmaking is about. That's it. Simple. The complications come in juggling so many different disciplines to achieve it. And none of it can be just...good enough. A good storyteller is rewarded with fame and riches, sometimes. But also can be banished to the dark underworld.
This place is also gripped with fear. If you don't feel fear, you are an idiot. And this place isn't for you.
Fear creates. Fear focuses. Fear motivates. You handle it the best you can.
For those who say they don't have it, they have THE most fear. Or they're deeply broken people. Or they're dumb.
To me, without fear you are ignorant. Which is why sometimes I tell younger people, their greatest asset is their ignorance. They move forward regardless of what is around them.
Actors live in ignorance. Which is why when they snap back into the real world...it's sometimes shocking. Because they can't get the response they want by the "dialogue" they spew. They get a REAL reaction. Which is baffling if words are written for you.
In the case of directing or writing...same. I know growing up, I use to watch movies all the time. And I'd use a line from a movie in real life...which didn't work out well. Because real people react as they would, NOT as you would write for them. Your expectations of their reaction is seldom correct. And it is disarming. Something of a control thing, no?
It's not bad to remain a little ignorant. That's why most people make movies. To learn something they didn't know before. I was always curious why someone who has a passion for something explores something they already know. I think it would make for a boring movie. Or if an actor does the same role over and over again. Seems they would just go through the motion.

Your Freedoms
Farce-book has banned me a few times for instigating a verbal battle. Labeling me a "bully"
I find that laughable as they've also allowed Lefties to get away with everything, as long as it tears into conservative thought.
Typical.
Censorship in America is slowly creeping into all facets of our lives. If you cannot speak, you cannot make art. Because someone out there will find it offensive. And at a certain point they will disagree with you.
Free thought, never thought I'd have to say this, is an incredible privilege. A lot of regimes in totalitarian governments don't like it. They've imprisoned people and have murdered over dissent.
Dissent is fine. HOWEVER, Black Lives Matter, Anti-Fa is NOT. They are terrorist organization that fraud Biden does not want to stop. Because they keep him in power. They lifted his hilarious rise to power under the idea that if you vote for him the burning and the looting stop.
Sort of has. Except, what they couldn't control was the murders in Democratic cities. Why that pig faced idiot Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot met with Biden. Most likely to figure out how to stop making her look bad (you can't. She is one ugly motherfucker...to steal from Arnold in "Predator")
The other thing is that Tucker Carlson's emails...PERSONAL emails were spied on. They were taken by the government. Now, for many of us, we realize everything is sort of looked at. I'm sure this blog has its own spies. Or whatever. I'm nobody. So, whatever. But that is sickening beyond words. That the F.B.I. can now justify reading your personal emails. It doesn't stop. Know why? Because "big tech" has control of all of your personal emails. Someone needs to take a flamethrower to Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey and all these Lefty terrorist who want have the arrogance to manipulate the majority of emotionally dumb supporters of the Democratic party. If I ever saw Mark Zuck, I'd spit on him. Dumb looking scumbucket.
Any way, the bridge from them to your freedoms isn't that far. The sharing of ideas or even the awful bantering between people should and COULD have a positive effect. America was built on innovation. To which their take is that only THEY may do it. And then allow us peasants to work for them. In a way, we already do. If you're dumb enough to use their platform for any informational exchange.
Their kind sickens me. They're best revenge against the people who have bullied them is to control their own bullies. They will eventually die understanding their cause of the decline of civilization.
Oh, to address Trump's lawsuit against them. Here's the thing...while there is a terms of service in when you sign up for these places...they could be nailed for fraud. Since they present themselves as a fair place for ideas exchange. It is not. It is funded or muscled by whomever has the key to THEIR own freedom. Section 230 to be specific. Which allows these places not to be sued over our exchange of ideas.
In order to get this protection, to which prior to this last election, Trump was about to get rid of their protection. You don't think for a minute they didn't attempt to control the outcome of the election.
That makes them a public entity at that point.
I hope they get fucked good.

Wii Spa And The Magical Weenus
So let me get this right, you filthy Lefties...
A tranny can go into a woman's room at a fancy spa and show his weenus (soon to be gone, I presume) but I can't tell a man who sucks cock is a degenerate puke.
Oooookay.
Look, this spa is fancy schmancy, and I would never find myself there, but the Asians who run it should know better. You are suppose to be the ones who could give a flying fuck about politically correct culture. For instance, standing on your shops during the Rodney King riots with a rifle and shooting at looters. What happen to THOSE Koreans?
Also, you degenerate, confused trannies... show some fucking class and save going into the ladies room UNTIL you get your weenus cut off. It's a nice place where young girls go. No one needs to see pecker. Especially forcibly by law.
I find it funny that the only video I have is from an outraged Black woman.
Okay...I asked my friend this...what is the tier system for anger and outrage? Does a tranny supersede a Black woman? Either way, the answer is... whomever gives their cause more money.
Also...why are we changing our lifestyle to meet what is essentially a miniscule population?
This is so baffling. It's like we're using these freaks to further prove how tolerant we are.
Big mistake.
It never ends.

Quentin Tarantino On Bruce Lee By Way Of Shannon Lee
"I’m tired of hearing from white men in Hollywood that he was arrogant and an asshole when they have no idea and cannot fathom what it might have taken to get work in 1960s and ’70s Hollywood as a Chinese man with (God forbid) an accent, or to try to express an opinion on a set as a perceived foreigner and person of color. I’m tired of white men in Hollywood mistaking his confidence, passion and skill for hubris and therefore finding it necessary to marginalize him and his contributions. I’m tired of white men in Hollywood finding it too challenging to believe that Bruce Lee might have really been good at what he did and maybe even knew how to do it better than them.
I’m tired of hearing from white men in Hollywood that he wasn’t really a martial artist and just did it for the movies. My father lived and breathed martial arts. He taught martial arts, wrote about martial arts, created his own martial art, innovated martial arts training, and refused to compete in martial arts tournaments because he believed combat should be “real.” He had no parallel as a martial artist. And I don’t think it’s a stretch to say he had no parallel as a martial artist on film, either.
I’m tired of white men in Hollywood barely footnoting the impact he had on the action film genre and fight choreography, or the proliferation of and interest in martial arts he sparked globally, or the number of people and communities he continues to inspire and touch with his performances, philosophies, teachings and practices while casually downplaying how his accomplishments have lifted spirits and become a source of pride for Asian Americans, communities of color and people around the world, and how he accomplished all of this by the age of 32."

I was very fortunate enough to have met director Richard Donner many moons ago.
And he is exactly who you think he is.
Fun loving silly goofball. Everyone's grandpa (at this point).
His laugh was infectious and his sense of humor beyond anything I've ever seen in a man who made some great cinema.
I suppose you can sort of tell by the vamping Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh do in the "Lethal Weapon" series. That is almost always Mr. Donner sitting back and watching Mel Gibson and Danny Glover banter and wise-crack. He's said on a few occasions how he's ruined takes by his boisterous laughter.
And folks...that is all what it is about.
Fun.
I can imagine, and I really hope to be some day, that guy who makes movies with this much joy. Not that moviemaking requires that fun, but the silliness he brought to movies is SO joyful. I can only assume a set run by Mr. Donner was all kinds of pranks and laughs.
Much like my dream is to only make movies with people I care about and whom I care about, I certainly think he imbued his cast and crew with the same lightheartedness that permeates through his films.
That isn't to say he wasn't serious when it was warranted. I suspect he just wanted people to be at ease. Because set work is long hours, a ton of commitment and chaos. He probably saw himself as a ringleader to a circus.
I truly am going to miss his style of filmmaking. I don't think anyone today has his sense of lightness I think movies desperately need. I wish I had gotten to ask him more questions. He was VERY wise in filmmaking and incredibly astute when it came to story construction. And had an instinct to it, YOU CANNOT teach.
I miss him already.

What Are You Waiting For?!
I do a podcast where I speak to people who make movies on film. Like, real Kodak film.
I had a conversation with a filmmaker who is in the process of making a film now. She, like myself, do it almost as a one person army. Which is everything.
A few days ago, I got a message about all the "testing" she's been doing. And, she decided to make a feature film.
I understand this. Many times, I will just grab my camera and go out shooting. It's really therapy. Alone with a camera capturing images.
However, it also isn't what I would say is...filmmaking. This is stalling to make a movie.
So what are you waiting for?
The answer...to be ready.
Ready for what? You may be asking. I did. I don't know. Except I do have a theory...
Most of us in making movies come from some form of an art world. In that world there are colossal douchebags. They nitpick and shit on everything. They are the cattiest shitheads you can ever assemble in one place. IF I were a professor of that school, I'd tell them one thing...
First off, you are going to suck. Or have moments of suck. What you make is going to be no-good. THEN, I would say...SO FUCKING WHAT?!
You are suppose to suck. And fail. And make shit. I have. You will. Everyone does. In fact, the higher you get up the ladder, the worse the fall.
I think we have this mentality that we are suppose to impress those who will never be impressed.
I say...fuck 'em.
MAKE YOUR FUCKING MOVIE.
Don't wait. You have no one to impress except yourself.
Because when you make something. Anyone with a brain will be impressed.
I've seen too many talented people wait, prepare, "get ready", overthink...then never do.
Look, you are suppose to make shit. In fact, the movie business calls it that ALL THE TIME. "Here's that piece of shit you wanted (script)" "Where is that piece of shit?" (actors), "Guy is making a piece of shit" (director).
You will not be immune to this, so who fucking cares?
Repeat: "Fuck 'em"
I'm always impressed if anyone makes anything.

American Flag And Olympics
Someone on the American Olympic team turned her back on the American flag when the anthem was played. For third place.
Hahahaha. Lady, you didn't get the gold and you're still a piece of shit. Wait till you get the gold AND THEN have a platform to be an idiot.
America funded this entitled animal. Gave her the comforts of being a world class competitor. Yes, you dummy, you were GIVEN this. You didn't earn shit. Your sole purpose in life is to run. Think about that for a second.
And she is ungrateful. While it is true she can do and say what she wants in America, because...this animal takes full and complete privilege of America when it suits her. She will be forgotten as she came in third place.
The balls on this woman.
Wait...maybe....hmmm...

To Vaccinate Or Not To Vaccinate...That Is The Question
Hey dummies, this wasn't FDA approved.
Know what else?
Pretty soon you'll have another identification card in your wallet. One that says you got a vaccination and will have to provide proof to do anything. Remember when America was free? This is how they get you.
So let me get this fucking clear, you don't need to show an I.D. to vote but you need one to exist. Where were all you morons who thought people shouldn't need an I.D. to vote.
Why do people fight having an I.D. to vote? Wait, I shall backtrack...Why do Lefties not want I.D. to vote? Because of all the illegal voting. Duh.
So now what happened to "my body, my choice?" Oh right, now that you feel threatened or scared or whatever fucking pansy shit it is this week, you change your mind.
Hey nitwits, THIS is the future you wanted. A little short-sighted wouldn't you say? Because you stupid fucking Lefties are reactionary. Meaning you only enact when it effects you. Though you pretend like you care about society.
For fuck's sake, grow a fucking brain. People should be allowed to do whatever the fuck they want, without hurting anyone directly. Want to change the health of society? Crack down on the inner city. Save many more lives than the totalitarian Lefty mindset of " you will bend to my will"
Fuck outta here.
IF you feel like you need to live in fear for the rest of your life (for something as low as 99.98% survival...remember statistics, ya' fucks...of course not, you Lefty idiots still believe Biden won the election...it's laughable when you consider the odds. Less than you winning lottery...proof), then you deserve to live in darkness. Let the rest of society move forward (as I've said from the start).
We've turned into a society of old fucking White women. Worried about our own shadows.
Now garbage pit fuckface-Book bans all those who call Biden a fraud AND that the vaccine is bullshit. Yep, a platform to which a lot of morons get "news" is now also burying facts and truth. You should be VERY worried. If you were put in their pissy ass jail, say it with me...Zuckerberg can suck a big fat cock.
Also, the fuck is Jew Zuckerberg running smoke screen for the Left now. Hey, dummy...the Left hate Jews. Didn't get that memo in Facebook? Yeah, because one of your censors blocked that information.
Jesus, media sucks big time. Fuck them.
Dump them.

Juneteenth
Really wasn't sure what this day was until it was explained at work that we could take the day off.
But I couldn't. Because unions don't follow this "holiday" but not because I am union...I work for unions.
After a little research, apparently it is the day that slavery in America was completely outlawed. Which...I don't think there's any other country that addresses their biggest mistakes in history than America. EVERY society has had slavery. Some still do. In things like indentured servitude. Debts owed are debts paid.
But in American slavery, because America thrived greatly from it, America needs to be reminded of its ugliness.
And it is ugly. Treating human beings as property has to be the ugliest notion in the human heart. We've seen experiments similar to this, and NONE of us are immune. Consider if Blacks were given the same power that Whites were and you'd see how that would pan out (it seems this is the direction we're heading where they are determined to make every White person feel the wrath of the past).
Slavery is ugly. But coming to terms with mistakes SHOULD be forgivable. But it isn't. And, in my opinion, never will be. It's like being married. Women never forget the slights.
Which is a lot of the reason why some communities never thrive. Because there's no many beefs based on pride.
Now, before a few of you idiotic Lefties come down hard on me about the fact that I would never understand what it meant because I am not Black, consider that I grew up in the 1980's in Ohio when the Vietnam War was 5 years removed. I'm not even fucking Vietnamese, but the soldiers that came back still existed in my community. In all communities. Yeah, it's a strange comparison, but I would say the shit I endured throughout my childhood of White racists equaled those of my contemporary Black neighbors. And I got MORE shit from Black people than any other race. That's what happening now, but the press don't have the courage to admit it.
Juneteenth seems to be a consolation prize to ugliness that the Founding Fathers can't shake. And yes, they were ugly racist. But that doesn't mean America is racist. It means we learned from our mistakes rather than bury the history (like White Lefties want to do). Democrats didn't free the slaves, Republicans did. Guess you didn't hear that one.
As one person puts it, it's a celebration of pretending the people who ran the ruse of pandering to the Black community needs to pretend they cared about them all along. Enter Joe Biden. Who embraces Juneteenth as much as Nancy Pelosi embraced her (hahaha) Kunte scarf. Comically stupid people who, have somehow won the pandering war with Black America. Or we know it's all fraud. Which it is.
Wake up people. Things like this doesn't solve race problems.

James Mangold: The Twitter Warrior
Director James Mangold has taken shots at the Twitter world for the slights people online have been making against his directing the fifth Indiana Jones.
He has many valid points and you can search them on twitter to realize how off the rails he becomes.
Essentially he is briskly telling the "fans" to wait till the fucking thing is done to shit on him. Or the project. Which I wholeheartedly agree with.
I'm not a fan of his movies BUT I love his craft (except for shooting this one on digital, which I understand the logistics of making an actor look more presentable). He wouldn't be the first person I thought of when it came to the Indy Jones franchise. In fact, I actually thought Jake Kasdan would've been pretty solid after coming off the "Jumanji" reboots.
Any how, Mangold goes I can see he is a film enthusiasts, which, in my opinion, makes him as qualified as anyone. I have no link to the Indy series other than they do represent great memories in my childhood. That's it. They were meant to be serials helmed by different people (which I was attempting to do myself). To that, I doubt he could do worse than "The Crystal Skull" one.
Also, it occurred to me, that as society changes so does the actual craft of making them. I think the cinematography of Douglas Slocumbe will never be outdone by anyone else. There was a time and place and uniqueness to his addition to the series which I found STILL incredible today. I bring up shooting on celluloid for that reason. The cinematographer on this Phedon Papamichael ASC, is REALLY well trained and exceptionally capable of capturing their own take of the Indy world.
However, the biggest mistake of ever tackling a mythical film is that you can't help but compare. I don't think many people who accept this responsibility, much like the "Star Wars" series. I would never try, not because of cowardice, but because I know the anchor it comes with. And...boy...the public will bury you in your own doubts.
Actually, kudos to Mangold for standing up for his project. Or the committee's project. I would never assume a person with such independent bones would want to do a summer blockbuster.
I would say...that's courage. I mean, in the film world anyway.
A Few Words From The Public
Okay, so a person had contacted me in regards of my "bitter, cynical, angry..."
To be clear, I am actually trying to encourage you to do your own thing without having to kowtow to people who hate you.
Yes, Hollywood hates you and judges you.
You think Meryl Streep looks a homeless person in the eyes when she walks around L.A. (if she walks)? Doubt it. Think Chris Evans likes to ride the bus?
No, this is what normal people do. To get by. I would not aspire to people like these. Even established people/filmmakers tend to be sheltered. And it's obvious they consider your life much less valuable then their own. Why? Because they can tell a good story? I guess.
The movie business, aside from what type of entertainment they provide, is also a perception machine. It's a business...don't you be mistaken. And you would fare better getting a lawyer license to break in, then a literary degree (most have). The rest is just getting through one hurdle after another.
What I am suggesting, is to get that chip on your shoulder, tell those guys to "fuck off!" and do your thing (within your own comfort level). That is freedom, people.
The reason why I shit on the people who pursue the more "loftier" goals is because these are not the people you want to associate with. At least, I hope you don't. They may have a ton of money, but they also have your balls in a sling.
The greatest freedom is to tell the story you want to tell. Which comes at a price but the cost is so low...in my opinion...your dignity.

Own Up To Your Bullshit
A co-worker and I were rapping about all the homeless in this town.
We're fucked in Los Angeles. It's not gonna be fixed anytime soon. Or with any real impact to repairing what the fucking idiotic Lefty politicians have done to this place.
Well, the conversation was about why and how homeless got to be that.
He went for the easy answer...mental illness and drugs. Which is very true.
I went for the less than common spoken about thing which is this...
homeless people will never hold themselves accountable for anything
Because that would require shame. And that is the only they hold onto.
This goes across the board from the ones who lost their entire living in substance abuse to mentally ill (which I get that it is a chemical imbalance here).
The one thing is...they will never apologize for anything. They won't take part in what got them to that place. Watch...ask a homeless person how they got there. 99.9% will say it was due to someone else OR lean on an excuse. Never is it..."I really screwed up with my wife." "My folks tried to get me help but I was a shit and I feel bad now and I regret it." Or "it's all my fault I'm in this situation."
In this case, they justify living like a low rent animal by mentally believing society is the one that suffers from the daily grind. This is sociopathic behavior. And the reason why you see more of them here than anywhere else is because of a) the weather b) entitled entertainment people.
People do come to Hollywood hoping to be the next Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie or, Paul Thomas Anderson, Ron Bass, or whatever. They believe they should be that, because in their little home town, they were big.
Here, you disappear. Then it's everyone else's fault you aren't where you deserve to be.
As Bill Muny says in "Unforgiven" deserving has nothing to do with it.
But entertainment people cannot digest this. So they hold everyone else at fault.
Again, go ahead and listen to a homeless person. They say idiotic things instead of pointing it directly at themselves for stupid behavior and bad choices. Perhaps they're cursed for making bad choices. Like given the chance to do the right thing or the wrong thing, they inexplicably pick the wrong thing.
I'd forgive anyone who believes this to be their answer.
At least ignorance is more interesting.
Inclusivity
Inclusivity is the ugliest word ever. Hollywood loves to use it.
It implies that you are allowing me to participate in your shitty event because I'm desperate to be in your club. And that even if you're underqualified, you still get to do something for them.
Fuck you. I don't need your permission to create my own club.
Which I have.
To be honest, I had no other choice. Because regardless of how "inclusive" Hollywood is, they don't give a shit unless you make money. And if you don't...color be damned. And I don't care to make the powers-that-be money. Because I'm not greedy scumbags for which this town is full of.
Don't let the bullshit social justice thing fool you. Most who work, don't have enough time to care. And those who've made it live behind guarded gates. Duh.
That is the truth.
So take your inclusivity and shove it.
You certainly don't need to announce that you're throwing us colored folk a bone.
Crew Stories
I love a great crew story.
I'm on a page now that has all the people who work on production that get to talk about their experiences. It's great because they all have stories that we, who worked in production, could relate.
I remember asking a friend when he came back from his shoot about his experiences shooting his film. He looked at me blankly..."it was great!"
That was it.
A few months later, the stories came out. But it took a while and I wonder about that.
I think this generation sort of...I dunno, thinks they're on the hotseat when it comes to pretending production is fun. It's not suppose to be. It's chaos and garbage and a lot of moving parts that never work. Imagine being on a boat and you bring up the anchor, and the engine dies, and then you fix the engine and there's a leak.
THAT is making movies.
And, for the most part, if you have the budget and time, there is little panic (or if you work on a union film). Because, we aren't curing cancer. And it's not life or death. Maybe if the producer is in with mafia...then maybe (which I've suspected a few shoots I've been on have been).
But I never understood the tight lipped nature of some people not to share their war stories. I suppose it could be the "don't kiss and tell" bullshit. But telling experiences of film shoots (good or bad) is the backbone of why we do it. And to learn from it.
In the example I mentioned above, and some of the stories I eventually was told, I learned a few lessons.
If you're stubborn, you probably wouldn't take many of it as cautionary tales. Also, it does weed out the serious people versus the not so serious people.
You will re-define your place a lot in the movie business, if you decide to pursue it.
A lot of people will fight it. Pretend like it's all roses. You're morons.
A few of you probably wonder why I'm still in it if I hate it so much.
If you paid attention, here's why...
I'm not in it. I work for it, and do my own thing. So fuck you.
A lot of people who do attempt to work in it, want to work for people who have the power, money and leverage to make something a ton of people will watch. And most of what I say will fall on deaf ears. A kid I'm mentoring now (I say kid, when they're 24, which is a kid in movie world) believes and hopes he gets someone to fund his projects. He's extremely talented and wholeheartedly believes he gets the chance. Reality? Probably not. As good as his film may be and as much effort as he puts in them...he may go invisible. And then the excuses come out. "They don't hire young White men" "I need the right people to see it..." etc...
This may be true, but it's not reality.
Reality is you will more than likely not get your chance to make the movie you want. NOT because you aren't good because there are a lot of people who also know a lot of people that are also ignored.
It's not your fault.
The only thing is your fault, is your attitude.
Instead of resenting Hollywood...do something for yourself. It doesn't have to go through them. The stories you tell between friends are a reminder that industry work is a shit show.
Keep pretending you deserve what you work for, make up lies about how much "fun" it is and see how far that goes.
The truth...enjoy what YOU are doing. And have a laugh at the ridiculousness of the biz.

"In The Heights" Bombed Big
Whichever idiot gave this the greenlight will probably fail up.
Sorry folks, it may be a good movie, but at a time when the majority of Americans, patriotic Americans are trying to get the frauds in the White House to go down to the border and illegal immigration and border jumpers, you fucking okay a story about how great it is to be in a ghetto that not even the ghetto recognizes.
Fucking morons.
Tone deaf Hollywood at its finest.
They don't give a fuck about your diversity (or phony one, at that). They care about being entertained.
So yes, it probably was a hit on Broadway, because all the nancies in that stupid garbage pit New Yawk city loves themselves. But for America, your pandering rings phony. And to spend $55 mil on the production is laughable. The fuck were you thinking Warners.
Hey, I shill for my Asian kind in director Jon Chu. But this just perhaps gave a window into how NOT GOOD "Crazy Rich Asians" was (it's okay).
It did make me happy that it also exposed how useless press is. Regardless of how hard you attempt to push an agenda to your corporate overlords. The corporations know the Left are emotional nitwits that are easily led. The Right can be fooled as well. But, think about how insulting it is they choose you over the latter. The Right tend to be much more skeptical of this behavior. There is no good will in business.
Look, stop being this type of pandering patronizing industry. Just make a good story. ANY story.
When you watch the trailer to this...what do you think it's about?
Here's me: It's tough to be a Puerto Rican in this town so I'mma' dance.
Pathetic.
No Romeo and Juliet. No...um...plot. Just...I'mma' sing and dance.
Also...why paint the shithole of New York anything than what it is? Why glossy up the shit?
It's still shit.
And America knew it.

Rich Kid Movies - John Hughes Sucks
I've always hated "rich kid movies"
What do I mean by that?
That rich White kids have everything given to them but they're still miserable. "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is the prime example. Entitled shit who got everything and still decides to bring grief to adults because...he's bored. Ooooo edgy.
Anything John Hughes, really. He grew up in rich kid Evanston, Illinois (which I've been too a few times). They're dicks in that community. There was a rule back when I visited where you couldn't own a pickup truck in that town because it was "unsightly." Sure those assholes lightened up.
Rich kid movies are ones where you are just baffled why they have issues. I think the message was suppose to be "even rich kids with good parents have issues" But they make the parents act and look like retards. Yea, nice message. And my classmates lapped it up.
I did see "Ferris Bueller..." in the theater. It was at a dual theater that had been running for almost a year (I eventually ended up working at that very theater as a late teen). It was..."meh" I just didn't get what the big deal was.
Conversely, a movie like "Back To School" was more my type of flick. It has the same sensibility but skates a little bit towards a better message. The fuck was Ferris all about. Except he's too cool for school and outsmarts everyone. Smug is gross.
In reality, Ferris would be put in boarding school and forgotten. Pretty easy to catch a kid who breaks the fourth wall talking into the camera.
I do give John Hughes credit for fooling people into believing his movies are any good. Some function STRICTLY on nostalgia. Even when they first came out into theaters.
Not a John Hughes flick but..."Less Than Zero" bugged me too. I don't blame anyone involved, since the source material is as vapid as the movie. It was suppose to be more so.
I don't know what's suppose to pass as dark comedy back then, but supposedly Brett Easton Ellis considered it that. That people are so shallow they don't show emotions in the correct places. Surprise! That's how you feel when you watch the flick or read the book (which I did....you're left with "so what?").
Ugh...yes, rich White people have problems. But seriously...the general public doesn't give a fuck about that.
