I have these odd conversations at the gym. Specifically when you're stuck in a sauna.
There's this White Blonde middle aged guy who told me he use to live in Texas and hated it there. Because there was so much surfaced racism.
He was also surprised that so many brown people felt it necessary to support whom he calls "the White agenda" since it doesn't serve them at all.
Um...dummy, there is no "White agenda" in America. There is the American agenda, which is a sense of patriotism towards America as a historical melting pot. If that means assimilation to "get what the White people have" then it's their perogative.
I've been accused of being White washed as well. Though I have nothing but love and admiration for my Taiwanese family, I tend to enjoy the fruits of American culture. It so happens it's based in European roots. So, isn't it odd why one doesn't get the same offense if say...a White guy goes to Japan and assimilates with THEIR culture? The Japanese have zero problems with that (and they are the most racist people on Earth, trust me). They enjoy and wish to assimilate in that.
In an odd sense, White people are made to feel guilty of their birthright. It's not good to embrace the White people life because it's just not you. Black people, specifically, are crushed under the weight of "living in White America." And feeling like a sell-out because they want "White people stuff."
This guy, at the gym, clearly senses his own injustices through the eyes of helpless brown and black folk. Which, in itself, is ridiculously bigoted.
When White folk victimize brown or black folk, you're saying we're essentially children that can't take care of ourselves. You don't mean it, but it's what it sounds like.
