Disney Is Determined To Blacken Everything
In an attempt to cram down diversity in its vault of live-action remakes, Disney has now replaced all White folk with Brown or Black folk. Fine. It's their company and they can steer this ship into a glacier. Here's the issue. They are White stories. What are "White" stories? They're tales told from White books, written about White people about White people. The thing about "The Little Mermaid" being a Black girl is that...it's "The Little Mermaid" You mean to tell me there are no Black tales that can be told? How sad is it that they can't mine a story like that. Okay, so I suppose you could justify it by saying that these stories had the opportunity to be told versus Black stories that were suppressed during that time. But what is Disney really trying to say? They have no real connection to what real Americans care about. And there isn't a shred of evidence this will go over well. Spending millions...er...losing millions to prove a point will be their undoing. It's just funny the arrogance of Disney to cram down these messages to their own bank accounts. Heads will roll. Now I don't personally have a problem with Black Ariel. IF they were honest with themselves, and we are about equality, they should start speaking out about Black Lives Matter or the NAACP. Why? That is decidedly (and by definition) self-segregation. They exist ONLY to thumb their noses at the rest of America. Didn't work for Hilary Clinton. Disney, I think, tends to think it can change culture. I think what they are not seeing is that their movies are suppose to be a warm hug to children. Go ahead and put in a subversive gay character. No one cares. But, don't signal it out that that is the sole reason a movie is being made. They are doing a live action flick about Snow White as well. A girl whose skin is white as snow...so they cast a Hispanic girl. Uh-huh. This is the idiocy of Disney. They forget their legacy.
