Oh New York, New York...if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.
Can we layer on any more left wing labels on people who are found dead in the Hudson. Back in, say...the 70's, it would've been... Paulie The Snitch Graciacomo...A Pioneer in the Polish sausage factory and Olive oil furrier.
They didn't do that. They just listed the fucker's name and that was the end of that.
BUT, now...here's a lady judge...no...no...a Muslim lady judge...no...no...first Black Muslim lady judge...bingo! And we then get upset when we label everyone.
Okay people, here's how to equal the playing field...
"Judge found dead in Hudson River"
Oh...wait. You're not going to get any eyeballs on that. So now we got to gild that lily.
I get it, and it's fine, but don't pretend like you give a fuck...news.

The Early Years
So...Music...what the fudge?
I remember listening to the Beastie Boys non-stop when I was in high school, undergraduate college and graduate school. Now I can't stand them. Why? I have no idea. Maybe the "music" has always sucked. I remember I confronted a girlfriend in college about whether or not she liked jazz music. She confessed that she didn't. I was a little touched that she tolerated it for my benefit, but she saw no value in it for herself. That's what love does, I guess.
Beastie Boys reminds me of a time and place, and throughout the rest of the decades, it still reminds me of those times and places. In that sense, it is a time capsule. BUT...I suppose if I wanted to re-visit the time and place, it will always be there. Some think it's because we evolve and we move on to other music. That's true too. I still watch Britney Spears videos because it reminds me of my first job in "The Industry." I was an office production assistant the same time she was JUST taking off ("Sometimes" video played around the clock at our office. And some Backstreet Boys video). Fortunately at that time, we were only on the third floor in an office on Beverly Boulevard, and probably would hit a Hassidic Jew had I jumped. Anyway, it also reminded me that most of the film stock for my thesis project came from A Band Apart. I recall a refrigerator full of short ends of 200 ft. which is about 1 minute 40 seconds of footage in 4 perf 35mm time. They let me have about 10,000 ft. built from different shoots. Man, were they kind to me. They could've used it for other things, like insert shots or whatever. And I was just an intern.
What a resource.
So I do count myself lucky in this business. But I would add, ASK! Seriously, most people are afraid to just ask. You'd be surprise what people will do for you if you show any level of initiative. I am constantly surprise now that I know I am on the other end of this exchange now. I get emails and messages from really earnest filmmakers. And I want to help them all. Passion and excitement is contagious. Let it be contagious to you.

North Carolina To Re-Ban Same Sex Marriage
Looking to defy the Supreme Court (ya know, the law of the Union...that won the Civil War), North Carolina wants to re-ban same-sex marriage. Motherfucker, who cares?
Your state is full of idiots already. They are leaving because it's contagious. North Carolinians...are nice folk. I mean really polite and kind and nice. So it strikes me as odd that y'all would care. Instead of focusing energy on nice things, like gettin' edu-ma-cated.
If you don't like the thought of gays getting married, go ahead and ignore it. Gays make your neighborhood so much nicer. Seriously. They scare the gangs out of shitty neighborhoods in Los Angeles. They passive-aggressively drive assholes out (not literally, because they like that part of the body, as I'm told). I wouldn't survive in their world...trust me.
And it's not like more gays won't flood your town driving up that liberal agenda. Maybe that's what people are afraid of. Or having to explain to your kids that Adam and Steve not Adam and Eve were also in the bible.
I think being gay is wrong, but I'm going to go ahead and just ignore it. Win-win.

San Bernardino Shooting
A man killed a teacher (who he was dating or wife or something) and accidentally killed an 8 year old. Then he killed himself.
What was lost was the Equinox guy who was just fired and came back and killed two people. Then he was killed.
Guns, man.
I still hate guns, despite shooting them and having fun. They aren't a toy. And people really have no clue what it means to own one. With prescription drugs and mental illness getting worse, it seems having something that is literally a hair trigger within reach...an awful thing.
I'm not sure if history could ever find the details of murder suicide between Miss Hester Pritchett, school marm and Hezikiah Boylen. MAYBE being run through with a knife and then hung himself? Who knows. These are weird things to consider when guns and emotions are involved.
The most strangest reasoning...why at an elementary school. Why not ambush her somewhere else? That's between you two. The kid thing is the awful part. NOT to say she deserved to get shot, but domestic shit that goes outside your home is still YOUR problem.
And most gun idiots are saying...that's why you arm everyone. Right. Think about the person you hate the most. Would you want that fucker to have a gun?

United Airlines Drag
No..it's not people being dressed up in opposite sex garb.
It's dude who wouldn't give up his seat because the airline overbooked the flight and forced one guy to leave in a lottery.
They offered $800 and a hotel stay. You dumb motherfuckers. I would've taken that, and then ordered room service. Then threw a party to everyone that was "inconvenienced" by my delay. Guy became a big fucking pussy baby and had to be dragged out.
Entitlement, entitlement, entitlement...yep. For $300 and loose change you can be whisked in the air and think you deserve the moon. The problem with this scenario (and I am guilty of it too)...we aren't owed anything. My ex-girlfriend was a flight attendant for United Express (their jumper plane model). It sucked balls. I mean, really...being stuck in a plane full of straight jerks is awful. People are miserable. Imagine, the waitstaff at Chili's sitting next to you while you order them around. It's garbage full of garbage people.
In the ol' days, flying was a privilege. You paid a lot to fly, and people wore suits. Nowadays, forget it. Pajamas and flip flops. Are these people who you want ordering you around.
Of course the jackhole is going to sue and then they'll settle and then everyone will show their phony outrage for a guy who is probably a douche you wouldn't piss on if he were on fire.
Yesterday afternoon, one of the maintenance guy talked to me about my ceiling collapsing. And he wondered why I didn't sue. I laughed at him. Because fucking cunt rags sue over dumb shit. I was clearly in the right and most likely would've gotten a payoff (since I also documented the decline). But..BIG BUT...in my mind, suing does nothing but hurt everyone around me. Guess who has to pay his lawsuit? Other people. Call me a sucker, but guess who gets preferential treatment now when anything goes wrong? You know what I call this...consideration for other people.
This asshole in the plane who had to be dragged off. Someone had to teach him consideration, when it should've come naturally.

Society
I really hope no one reads this and think I've lost complete and total hope for humanity. It's not true. I cast a very cynical outlook on those I've come across as most have no consideration for others. In a sense, I make up for their lack of concern for failing manners.
There's a guy I work with who does the minimal. I constantly bag him over not caring about the job. To which be bats back...that's why I'm stressed out and he's not. Yeah...I'm pissed I have to pick up his slack. But moreso...I'd lile everyone to care what they do.
I had this conversation with another co-worker which came down to...if I HAD to work at McDonald's I would find the good in it. For a lot of people, the reason there is no pride in what they do is because job satisfaction seems to be from outside looking in. No one ever seems to see potential satisfaction from within besides the basics. "I HAVE to work to pay the mortgage" type of talk. Good look getting that mule to carry the water.
For me, I am grateful for what I do (disgusted that co-workers don't feel the same) which is...I'm doing what I care about doing and would be doing it even if they didn't pay me. In that sense, I pity the ones who suffer thru seeing it simply as a job. To me they are in Hell. So I wish they would clear the way for people who do care.
Incidentally, the worm I work with lays as low as possible to not draw unneccesaary attention upon his lack of interest. The "just tell me what to do and I'll do it" guy is an utter failure at life.

Armchair Directing
"This guy knows how to direct actors, I've seen him work with them"
This after I watched a horrible short film his friend made.
This is the stupidest comment ever said. And by someone who knows less than shit about filmmaking. Why? Because if you cast right, you never have to direct.
Film school has fucked these eggheads up. Especially former filmmakers who now teach. I get they have to fulfill their semester. And...truth is...you learn more by just watching movies anyway.
This idiot who said this to me also stumbled onto the biggest trap known to any newbie...
...acting the part of a director over directing.
If this dumny had ever been on a real set, directors don't say much. It's on the page. If you happen to write for the actors even better. These newbies want the idea of directing. The book bullshit. No...it's usually "slower" or "faster" or plain watching. That is the problem with young people these days. They think it's wearing the bullhorn and molding performances. Try the nuts and bolts.
To date, this moron hasn't made anything out of film school. So, very nice of you to share your opinion.
